Packages, payment & speed

Postby pantsman28 » Wed Mar 03, 2010 10:48 am

I have been hearing a lot of great noises coming from your corner of the ISP world, and some stunning reviews from customers. So just a couple of questions regarding your packages.

A couple of years ago I was with Bulldog before they were brought out, at the time I was on their gaming package, speeds I was getting back then on ADSL2+ were 18meg dl/1meg up. If i was on the Premier Option 1 package would I be getting roughly these kind of speeds? I know noise and distance plays a key part of any line speed but thought I would ask to see if I would get similar speeds, I doubt for one minute I would get the full 24meg?

Premier Option 1 questions:
Is port 25 open so I can use outlook and my own domain name or do I need to relay through aquiss.net or stick with using gmail? I know some isp's block this port in the fear of spam.

I can't make my mind up between Premier option 1 & Gaming 30 package? I am keen to take advantage of the lower price and 2 month free option and of course unlimited allowance of the Premier option 1 but how much difference does Interleaving control & low latency monitoring have overall.

My daily usage basically consists of iplayer or tvcatchup during the day, gaming on PS3 or AOE3 PC in the evening and maybe the odd torrent of tv epsiodes over night.

and finally...

How does the billing work? I understand you don't automatically take the money, you invoice and we as the customer make the payment, if the latter!!! then can we make payments through paypal each month?

If you have not moved, then you should be syncing up in the same sort of speed area as before. The default profile is based on a 10db SNR margin.

Port 25 is open so you can use your open relay, however any reports of spam from your IPs will result in your account being suspended until we investigate the matter further.

Interleaving can add upto 20 ms on the network, however your also comparing 2 wholesale networks. Gaming is BT based, whereas Premier is based upon C&W core network.

We raise invoices, 7 days in advance, and then a whole array of methods of payments can be used to clear that payment, including Paypal which over 50% of customers use.

We are currently working on restoring recurring automatic payments via Credit and Debit cards for those who want it. Paypal options will be reviewed at that time.

l can vouch for the stability of the C&W network.

however this post was more of a "lm interested in hearing more about the Direct Debit options, and lm glad they may possibly be implemented shortly as l feel lazy sometimes when concerning logging into PayPal" lol

I dont know when direct debit may become an option, but in my opinion, there is currently a better option. That is standing order.

Money leaves your account automaticaly, but the difference is that you tell the bank how much and when rather than someone else having the right to take what they want when they want it. Put a ticket in if you are interested.

Thanks for the reply s.

I have full faith with the cable & wireless network which is not an issue.

Just wondering I hear BT cap the line speed for the first 10 days of any new phone line installation, is this correct? I have just done a line speed test using your Broadband Line check and the result are as follows:

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 6Mbps.Your exchange is planned to have ADSL2+ by 30th November 2010. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 7Mbps.

As stated before I know the line is capable of much higher speeds under old Bulldog & sky equipment in the exchange so is this cautious results or because the line was reactivated yesterday under a new number?

Just want a clear picture of speed before hitting the buy it now button ;)

cheers guys
