Gaming on the business package

Postby mrnelster » Tue Mar 08, 2011 10:05 pm

I am hoping to get connected to FTTC in the coming weeks if BT pull their fingers out!
All the cabinets seem to be finished just waiting for switch on.

I am thinking of going with Aquiss on their business package.

Like to hear of experiences with them, the good and the not so good (if any ;))

They have told me they priortise gaming and voip as their top protocols, but their doesn't seem to be a separate gaming package for FTTC yet?

Many thanks.

Knowing how it works is completely different to understanding how it works.

Normal ADSL products on Business Aquiss + Gaming on Xbox/PC/PS3 is great far better service than BT counterparts, i myself have FTTC Business ordered so I shall post my results as soon as I am active

I had a session of gaming on the 360 on Friday night, and am on FTTC.
I played black ops for a few hours and was host the majority of the time. With black ops the game was reporting the connection for upload was around 9.3meg (Mbps). This did change depending on when I went in and out of the menu, as it was late at night but was never below the 7Mbps mark. (9.3 was being optimistic as general uploading is around 8.2~8.4).

The game ran really well, with my team mates commenting on how smooth things were that night and the best it had been for ages. They didn't actually know I had changed from my previous provider which who gave me 1.7meg upload to the new FFTC from Aquiss which has obviously far more upload. Pings were great aswell and had 4 green bars when I wasn't host.

Thanks for the replies guys. :)

@Obi - what was your black ops experience before fibre? Has this improved it by much?

Thanks

Before Aquiss I was with BE and had annex m on my line so was connecting to the exchange at just over 17500Kbps download and around 2000Kbps upload, so was getting around an average of 15meg download and 1.7meg upload (with annex M you sacrifice part of your download for upload)
Pings were 20ms to bbc from Wales, so I had a really good connection. Saying that I was picked as host very often and when I had host the game ran perfectly well for me and others on my team.

On Aquiss with the better upload bandwidth and pings on average 12ms it certainly helps hosting, and hosting large numbers of players. I am having issues with downloads though and this seems localised to my area, which I hope will be solved soon.
I'm still terrible at the game although being host usually makes the kill to death ratio better and getting more kills and killstreaks.

I am with BT.

Being 5km + from the exchange means I get a terrible connection for gaming. They say I should get anything between 1.5 and 2Mbps, but in reality it is a constant 0.5mbps. Upload floats around 0.3!

The reason I want to use Aquiss is because they should be easier to deal with when things go wrong than a BT call centre.
That said, the improvement should be so great I probably won't have anything to moan about!

My kill death in combat training is 3.86 with 21% accuracy. Online it is 0.43 and 6.13% accuracy.
Most people with good lines don't get just how bad the lag can be. My friends with great lines tend to think they are fantastic players. Perhaps they could be, but connection is everything.

I showed them this video on YouTube and now they seem to get it! ;)

I'll let you know how I get on if FTTC ever flipping goes live. :)

Let me know your thoughts on the vid (if you haven't already seen it).

Stats mean nothing.. and On a console your can never be certain of what your connecting to, which is why PC is better for dedicated servers.. gives the users an equal platform! although to be honest, i got bored of black ops, its just *beep*!
