requirements 27" bright screen will be mostly used for Photo processing and watching iplayer- HDMI- SD card slot. backlit and high resolution.

Hi OG,

The only monitors I will recommend to anyone is Samsung. I simply can't fault the panels, especially when i work with graphics and high quality images every single day of my life (i am graphic designer by trade after all).

I personally recommend iiyama for large monitors.
Here are some price comparisons for the iiyama B2712HDS-B1 with HDMI connection and speakers.

And for more comparison, here is a comparable Samsung monitor from Martin's suggestion.

Out of the two models here, the iiyama one technically has a brighter image than the Samsung, but the Sammy has better contrast. Note the price is MUCH less than your £400 budget for both makes.

Personally i now avoid iiyama after having quite a few both personally and around the Aquiss office.

Simple reason for this viewpoint, we had failure after failure with them and poor technical support from Holland. iiyama also don't replace like for like, so we got return models of a lesser standard that the units they collected. poor show.

Now that's unusual because I found their warranty support to be great, that's why I recommend them.
AOC were another company that did really well for after-sales support. I got an "as new" refurb from them with literally days left on the 3 year warranty.

isn't there only three or four actual panel manufactures, lots of manufactures just package with their electronics?

There are three main panel grades, generally;
Class 1 are guaranteed zero pixel and immediate replacement if any fail with good 3 yr at least warranty.
Class 2 are guaranteed zero (ish) and good warranty.
Class 3 are the usual sub £100 where you are expected to count yourself lucky it works.

Dell (business grade,) Samsung, AOC Ilyama (business grade) are usually Class 1
Dell (retail,) and the higher end retail are generally Class 2
Most of what looks cheap are Class 3

I have Dell (business) 24" monitors with 5yr warranties, never had hassles and 6 yrs on they work well, also got AOC and 10yr on, still fine - samsung tv ones the electronics went before panel - pays money - takes choice.

Just as an aside... (read up the legal bit yourselves - do not rely totally upon this but,) you know all those warranties saying well erm... so many pixel defacts are allowable...there is a school of thought saying buy them anyway and get them replaced until they are good as unlike the rest of the US of E, UK Sale of Goods requires items sold to be free from minor defects so, unless you knowingly bought seconds and agreed lower quality, pixels not working? minor defects?
Then again, even a second should be of merchantable quality and... free from minor defects.

Nice choice OG!

To answer your question, not all monitors are televisions. This *particular* model is also a TV because it has a Freeview decoder box built into it. All you'd need to do is plug your aerial into it, plug it in the wall and turn it on. It should then go off to find all the TV channels available to you.
It is also full HD which gives you more options in the future for attaching a bluray player, games console or other HD TV source like Virgin or SkyHD.

As for the actual PC monitor bit, you may find that your icons and lettering get smaller than you're used to, even with the extra size of the screen. If that is the case, give us a shout on here and one of us will walk you through changing the size of your text.

The price you're quoting is £329 and change.
I have another seller on Amazon selling it for £313.54.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listin ... dition=new

There are other sellers found through Google shopping, but I don't know them so I can't recommend them.
Not a bad deal at all OG! Well done!
